Furycast 47 - Death, Pain, and Politics

Jess and Magnus talk DOWNTON ABBEY, COPPER, NEW GIRL, 30 ROCK, some WALKING DEAD, DEXTER, Yvonne Strahovski, and lots of politics (look out conservatives!) and just random babbling. Yes, this goes on for a LOOOOONG TIME.

Sorry, no times noted because I am lazy. But the DOWNTON ABBEY and COPPER discussion ends around the 33 minute mark. LOTS OF SPOILERS (even beyond the 33 minute mark, so be careful, especially after the 70 minute mark)!

WARNING! This is an almost completely unedited podcast.

  1. Just some feedback on why/how I listen to the podcast. I download the MP3 because I want to listen on my ipod on the way to work. I tried this once with iTunes and it wouldn't play on my ipod for some unknown reason. Downloading from this site and popping it on the ipod before leaving for work took just a minute this morning.

I should also admit that I FF'd through the Downton Abbey and Copper discussion. I'm not going to watch the former until it airs in the U.S. and I won't get around to the latter for a few weeks. Sometimes I don't mind spoilage, but I got the sense these were momentous episodes I should watch myself.

Even at that, the podcast was longer than my commute this morning and I will have to finish it on the way home. I did enjoy some of the tangential discussions a lot.

    1. COPPER is the greatest show ever in the history of television.

So obviously no one is watching it.

  2. I'll participate in the poll! Because i always do. :) I like the long podcasts. There!

I'm the same way when it comes to listening to podcasts. I don't like iTunes very much either. I always go to the source when i wanna hear one.

I gotta check out Copper at some point. Walking dead was cool. But because you haven't seen it i wont go into details. I liked Yvonne's cameo. I mean! Her scene. :) Looking forward to next week. When we really start to delve into her character.

I was the same way with Wikipedia. In High School i always copied and pasted. Mostly because my teachers really didn't care. Now in college, not so much. I still use it. But now i do the click on the source thing you guys were talking about.

    1. Magnus!

By the way. Are you gonna keep the Fury Cast logo black and white now?

    2. I am thinking about making it black for when Jess and I do one and a different color for when VladyGG and I do one. :)

  4. Since you talked a little bit about BBC America, I thought I'd look up some numbers.

They are in about 79 million homes, which is about 70% coverage of the U.S. A typical basic cable network is in about 98 million homes. But, HBO is in about 31 million.

Its Live + Same Day A18-49 rating on 9/30 was only a .15, but it went up to a .32 on a Live + 7 basis. The lift is 113%. Total Live + 7 viewers are only 938,000.

It's tiny, but the only thing on the network that is higher is Doctor Who which had 1.6 million viewers L+7.

BBC America was probably hoping for better for Copper, but I wonder if it is enough to get another season order.

    1. I think what they were hoping for was Emmys.

      Thanks for the info.

    2. Yeah, with the auspices of the show, they were hoping for a lot more critics on their bandwagon, but, oddly, after the initial middling reviews, the key critics have been ignoring the show.

BTW, BBC America's upfront party this past Spring was set up to be like a party in an 1860's New York brothel in honor of the show. It was very cool.

  6. Hi guys! LOL
So, regarding the whole "how you listen" discussion, I do download the podcast via itunes, but mostly because that way I can listen to it on my ride to work. I'll still check the website afterwards and commment on the podcast anyway.

For the podcast, don't watch Copper yet, but it's going into my "to watch" list. It definatelly sounds good.

Funny enough, there was a brazilian podcast that came out around the same time as this where they were also discussing the current lazyness of people of just copying things from wikipedia. If you can't go to the trouble of summarizing things or at least changing some of the words in it and quoting the correct source, you should fail the assignment. come on, people!

    1. I like to download podcasts as mp3 because often times they are of better quality than what iTunes has. With respect to ours, sometimes Vlad and I record high quality podcasts (like the top 20 metal albums one coming out soon), and that should definitely be downloaded as an mp3. :)

Anyway, thanks for commenting. People don't understand how important it is for those who do the podcast. Because I'd happily make a podcast that was only listened to by 5 people if all five commented every week.
