Updated CHUCK Season 5 DVD Sales Numbers - 4th Week on the Charts

In an unprecedented turn of events, CHUCK Season 5 has stayed on the top 30 DVD sales charts for four weeks running!

In its 4th week on the charts, it comes in 29th place. Source: The-Numbers.com

Chuck: The Complete Fifth Season sold 18,871 units in week 4 of release for a total of 123,080 units sold to date. That's a reported revenue total of $3,273,159.

Only about 10 times that needed in sales to get that movie! Keep buying. Keep spreading the word!

  1. You do realize Magnus that if this was any other site they would be taking credit for this? You started the buy DVDs campaign but never take any credit for the success and that's why I love you man. Fuck the bullshit petition signing shit. This is what's effective.

  2. I posted yesterday asking how much money would it cost to make a Chuck movie and you said in the neighborhood of $30 million, and now you say, "Only about 10 times that needed in sales to get that movie! Keep buying. Keep spreading the word!"
So let's say for arguments sake that WB is interested in making a Chuck movie with a budget of $30 million. Would they wait for Chuck Season 5 to hit $30 million in sales before they would give it an OK?

    1. Fine... 9 times that... sheezus.

And no, they wouldn't wait for CHUCK season 5 to hit $30 million in sales since it is very unlikely that it will get even a third of that. But a collection of all the seasons selling well, plus the other merchandise available, will make it happen.

Granted, them selling the show into syndication will definitely speed up the possibility of a movie. But they still haven't done that.

    2. The lack of a syndication deal by now is certainly a mystery to me.

I'm glad about the DVD sales don't suck, though.

  3. This is good right?

  4. Those figures do not include any blue ray that have sold.

    1. They'd most likely be within the industry standard... like 20%. So, around 25,000 units sold in total.

  5. I am glad Chuck is still in the top 30 I hope people keep buying every season not just Season 5

  6. I don't think a Chuck movie will ever happen even with the continued sales.

I heard a couple weeks ago that Andy Breckman the creator of the television show Monk wanted to make a t.v. movie for the USA network.

The USA network rejected his script because they didn't think it was any good and they thought the budget would be too high.

Monk was a very popular show and i'm sure a t.v. movie would have done very well for the USA network had a film been greenlight.

It doesn't look like the movie 24 will be happening because of availability of the actors, budget concerns and salary demands.

I think had a 24 movie been made it would have grossed 100 million dollars because of the fanbase it has.

It looks like a done deal that Arrested Development will be getting a movie in 2013 but i predict the movie won't do well because it was a cult show.

If Arrested Development doesn't do well it could make studios even more cautious towards making films of cult televison series.

If two popular shows such as 24 and Monk can't get films made i don't see how that's good news for a potential Chuck movie.

of all the entertainment news i've heard recently this disappoints me because i really would like to see a big screen Chuck movie with the whole cast.

    1. I thought Arrest Development was coming back as a series.

There are different types of movies:

      1. Theatrical: Generally higher cost and high expectations for people to actually lay down bucks and attend. Examples of series that came back this way to varying degrees of success: Star Trek, X Files, Firefly.

      2. TV Movie: Cheaper than a thetrical. Someone only needs to think people will watch. Examples: Alien Nation (came back with 2 TV movies), Brady Bunch, Babylon 5.

      3. Home Video Movie: Budget can vary. Example off the top of my head: Stargate, which produced 2 "straight to DVD" movies produced just as they stopped production on their last season. There was supposed to be a third about a year later, but that was scrapped. Babylon 5 also produced a very, very cheap almost entirely green screen movie for the DVD market a few years ago.

So, when people say they want a movie, it's kind of unspecific.

We probably should add in that there might be possibilities with things like Hulu and Netflix in the game in the future.

    2. ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT is coming back as both a season/series and a movie.

But these things take time. Anyone expecting it to happen within five years is kidding themselves. I've been saying ten years is more likely... and I think that is a good possibility.

      Delete
    3. In Ten Years Zac will be 42 and Yvonne would be 40 and Adam would be like 60! Shieeeet Partner...they would be too old, the movie would be like them as parents and their kids taking over, lol, something like that.

      Delete
    4. You must be very very young, Shawn, if you think that's "too old."

      Delete
    5. I meant Hollywood age...like in soaps as soon
As you reach 40 you are a grand dad, lol. In
The real world 40 is not old but a long stretch I just meant Hollywood.

      Delete
    6. Only for female actors.

Yvonne has a baby face so she'll be fine until 45.

    7. True, I can understand why guys get more of a break as they get older. My girlfriend says looks better now then he did when Chuck started.

    8. "Zac looks better......."

    9. I think we all want a theatrical release. Who wouldn't want to see Chuck on the big screen? But I'm a Chuck fan who is more concerned about the story line as opposed to the quality or type of film. If a Chuck movie could be released with a good story line and look similar to what were used to in Chuck's seasons 1-5, I wouldn't have any complaints. Obviously a large scale funded movie would be sweet, but I'll take almost anything at this point because most shows don't even get a movie.
But how many shows still get this much buzz after almost half a year? Sure a lot of fans have moved on, but there's still a large community, and a lot of the fans that moved on would come back into the Chuck universe if another addition came out.

      Delete
  7. Yes, i know there are different types of films.

With regards to Chuck everyone wants a theatrical release.

I would also accept a straight to DVD film but i don't know about other fans.

    1. I ONLY want a theatrical release. I've seen what a DVD film looks like... it looks like CHUCK season 5.

  8. I'm happy with the five seasons we got. Haven't got round to buying the Blu ray of S5 yet which I must do.

I can't see how a film would be anything but a plot retread at this point.

Any other continuing plot line wouldn't make sense to a non fan and would just be confusing.

    1. I think on a basic level even the most anti-shipper fans would want to see what happened with Chuck and Sarah after the final beach scene...So credit Fedak with that. If the movie shows her having remembered everything then the whole series makes sense again, if not then hey we get to spend a couple more hours with the characters we got to know over 5 years even if they are not the ones we loved.

      Delete
    2. I think people who want to see a theatrical release with a decent budget would like to see what the show could do with such a budget--good effects, spectacular stunts, choreographed fights that have been worked on for more than an hour. It would even be cool to see them do location work in somewhere other than Southern California.

While seeing what happens after the beach may be a big driver for some people, if the film doesn't happen for ten years as HGF said, little time will probably be spent on details of what happened ten years beforehand. You'll see them ten years later, there might be some brief exposition about what they've been up to and it would probably launch into some big globe-spanning mission.

That's if it's theatrical, of course. If it's a TV movie, it probably would look like Season 5--a lot of the WB lot from different angles.

    3. Yep, I want to see Chuck versus the Colonel versus the Tic Tac versus the Honeymooners versus the Santa Suit etc etc but with a good budget and months and months to plan it all out. I don't want to see CHUCK 5.14.

      Delete
    4. I agree with the that, I still meant that fans would want to see what version of Chuck there is in 10 years...is the gang back together? are Chuck and Sarah still together? etc.

As HGF said it is not just the budget fans want increased they want to see better stories too like season 2 and 3 storylines not season 5 storylines that sucked ass.

A great villian would be cool, heck maybe they could bring back Shaw, Fulcrum, the Ring and every other bad ass mother fucker for the whole movie. Location shooting would be awesome, heck I know that must be tough but I hope they could pull it off.

    5. I don't need a movie to tell me that Sarah and Chuck will be together in 10 years.

    6. Please... Sarah will have dumped him by then.

      Delete
    7. Sarah has already dumped him, she has done nothing to re-establish their relationship . He keeps tracking her down, she listens to his stories, tells him she has no feelings for him and then leaves again without telling where she is going or if she will ever come Bach. Time for Chuck to move on.

  9. Okay, I can see your POV.

In ten years, Sarah is working with her lover Cole Barker on joint CIA/MI5 missions.

Chuck is married to his original true love Jill and they have some high IQ babies.

I can see how WB would think tons of fans would go see that movie at what will surely be $20 a ticket in 2022.

    1. Please chuck is way more of a man than cole and plus cole now is 45 in 10 years he will be 55..grandad, chuck had Sarah's heart and always will. Even Yvonne thought so or so she said.

      Delete
    2. I just realized that Shawn has lost his mind.

Cole is and will always be more of a "man" than that girly screaming Chuck. And Sarah has daddy issues... so she would be attracted to older men.

      Delete
    3. Errr....Chuck has the intersect 2.0 and can do anything and everything that Cole can do and then some and Chuck has daddy issues too, Sarah and Chuck are two peas in a pod...so to speak. Plus the heart is what the heart is and Sarah chose Chuck over Cole and she chose Chuck over Shaw and Bryce and I guess she would over time do it again...but I guess I have lost my mind so what do I know.

      Delete
    4. "so she would be attracted to older men."

So? She's been attracted to Cole before, but chose Chuck.

      Well nevermind, continue teasing. :)

    5. Having abilities doesn't make you a man. It just makes you a very capable girly man.

      Delete
    6. Thanks Anonymous I forgot about that...that she chose Chuck over all the supposed Macho men before and more than likely she would choose him again, lol. Plus Chuck is not the same man she met so right now he is an awesome spy and if that is her type than he is her type. I guess the kiss worked or so Fedak said.

It is funny now looking at all the pre-finale interviews with the cast and how they all said Chuck won her heart again, it is like even they tried to believe that Chuck would be with Sarah even Captain Awesome! AWWWW.

      Delete
    7. How about treating people with respect? Cole hit on Sarah like really hard and cheesily in Beefcake and Bryce was the same. They came across as me, me, me kind of personalities and only changed tact when they realised that Sarah did not like that side of them. Cole was more genuine in Lethal Weapon but his sincerity did not show itself at first and that is the thing...you can have it but if it is not something that comes natural to you like it does with Chuck than....you lose the girl...and all the "men" lost.

      Delete
    8. Sarah doesn't remember shit. Her brain got wiped like a baby's ass. She's got poop brain.

      Delete
    9. Just checked Beefcake and Sarah went over Coles file and smiled. I wonder what she would do when she goes over Chucks file...

      1) Only man alive that can handle the intersect
      2) Took down Fulcrum, whick the government could not do in 30 years.
      3) Took down the Ring.
      4) Took down Volkoff.
      5) Took down Decker and Shaw again.
      6) Saved the world on multiple occassions and is a bad ass mother fucker!

Chuck's spy resume is actually quite awesome...lol, as much as he screams and is a pussy for 2 seasons from season 3 onwards he is a badass who got shit done and probably would have had commendations if the USA gave them to him.

Nevermind...Sarah has no brain and Fedak is a moron.

  10. What's the average time for a show to get picked up for syndication once it's off the air? Months? Years? If Chuck hasn't been picked up yet, will it get picked up at all?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't know what the time frame is but based purely on stuff I'm making up in my head right now, if a show isn't picked up quickly after it goes off the air, it is in trouble.

HOWEVER, WB will continue to sell the show overseas trying to make it popular there. So, it could very well become a huge hit in Asia and make the company billions (like HEROES has for Universal).

  13. I know this has nothing to do with the Season 5 sales but I have been thinking for the past couple of months to visit key places that Chuck was filmed at like where the outside of the buy more was filmed, also orange orange/ weinerlicious, also where they filmed the apartment at the pilot and finally the famous beach from the pilot and final episode. I think it could be cool I wanted to do it during the NERD HQ thing but all of the hotels rooms that are close are sold out and yes I researched it because I looked at 20 hotels. Yes I know one is in Burbank and Nerd HQ is in San diego and that is my problem because it's about a over 2 hour taxi drive and I can't afford that and I don't have a drivers license which doesn't help either. The point is that one I do go during Nerd HQ because if I could get Zachary Levi to come to all 4 stops and do like mini interview at each spot which I think it would be awesome but since that is not going to happen I am hoping to go in September sometime and hope by that point he might be willing to do it then. So please Tweet Zachary Levi about this Idea and my twitter account is @greglhay

  14. i've been watching chuck from the first season up to the fourth like five to six times already, but just watched the last season once, last 2 episodes of season five about thrice. i can't get over them i swear, i really liked the chuck versus sarah ep,,, not the ending much though. i have been thinking of a possible scenario that it might take time for sarah to remember chuck and being on her default setting as a cold blooded spy - i'm assuming they have to rejoin CIA again to form the bond that they had for 5 years. i'm a bid of a pessimist so i think there will come a time that chuck will offer sarah either 2 options which will make sarah realize that chuck loves her. 1st option - divorce - come on please here me out first. i know he loves sarah that much but later on he will realize how hard or what pressure is she bringing sarah to remember - thus he will let go. 2nd option, in the late part of season 4 I know you all remeber volkof's BLANK IDENTITIES, in my ending maybe he will make one for sarah, since it is their pre nup to never contemplate for divorce - he will give sarah the option to start again. a life without him, and with no pressure of him being married to sarah. but the point of giving blank identity to sarah is that SARAH WALKER FIVE YEARS AGO tends to stay with him. he will tell her that they would always have those five grateful years together.... hahahaha that's what i'm just thinking
