DEXTER Season 7 Gets Yvonne Strahovski

Being reported all around the Internet and on your Blackberry is the news that the beautiful, brilliant, and super-duper-sexy Yvonne Strahovski will be stealing every scene on DEXTER next season.

Unfortunately, I quit that show last season when it not just jumped a shark but then cut its wrists in the water so the shark would quickly find and eat it!

Here's what Showtime is saying about Yvonne's future Emmy role:

Her character is named Hannah McKay and she is "a strong, independent woman with a past that she's struggled to put behind her. As a turn of events leads Miami Metro Homicide to ask for her help in solving some old cases, Dexter works with her and begins to wonder if there's more to this woman than she's professed."

There will obviously be nakedness and sex. Meaning crafty editors will later use these scenes in a CHUCK fan video.

DEXTER starts 30 September, 2012, at 9pm on Showtime (which, interestingly enough, is one day after Chuck Bartowski's birthday).

So what say you?

  2. At least you only have one season to catch up on. I think I have about 3 to watch during the summer doldrums in order to get back on track with this show.

    1. I have seen all the seasons... unfortunately. I think I started to tune out in season 4 (which, mind you, is like the critical favorite or some shit). There's just something about the show that has always rubbed me the wrong way. I mostly watch because people I know in the real world watch it.

At least I will have an actual reason to watch this season.

      Delete
    2. IMO--you don't have to watch all the seasons to watch this coming one.

I all of the early ones. But, last year, I just watched the first episode, a random middle episode, and the final episode and pretty much "got" the season.

That's all you need to do.

  3. oh god, lol...really!...that is so funny that I am on the floor laughing that fans would be that desperate to edit sex scenes into Chuck, lol. I totally forgot that Dexter is on Showtime and that they have can have nudity and say Fuck. Then again even if they had nudity on Chuck I doubt Zac would have taken his shirt off, lol.

    1. Zac DID take his shirt off a few times. There was just that one scene where he didn't want to and then they had to go back later and reshoot the scene with his shirt off... wait, am I supposed to be talking about that?

      Delete
    2. I meant in a tv "sex scene", lol. I think he did it once in Phase Three and that was it. But it is his body and if he did not feel comfortable then fair play to him, I know from speaking to Joel McHale that it can be really daunting doing those type of scenes in front of a room full of people.

      Delete
    3. There is no fair play in Hollywood. YOU TAKE OFF YOUR CLOTHES WHEN THE SCRIPT SAYS YOU DO!

Even if you are the star of the show. ;)

      Delete
    4. Wait what? How could they edit the shirtlessness in? What scene?

      Delete
    5. I am pretty sure it was the Chuck Versus the Anniversary scene where Morgan tries to "sext" sexy pictures of Chuck to Sarah. When they first shot it, Zac wouldn't take his shirt off for the scene but the producers were like "Zac, it doesn't fuckin' work with your shirt on" so they re-shot it.

At least that's how I remember it being told to me... and I also remember being told not to tell anyone about it. Oops.

    6. Suck it up, take notes from your co-star. She was fearless.

      Delete
    7. I assumed that was the one, he looked good shirtless with Jill in Season 2, looked good in the steam room episode in Season 3, but didn't look very toned in anniversary in Season 4. After that he had a number of episodes to get ready for the massage episode and then the dream sex scene and he looked very trim in those. Really, though, suck it up. Proves though that guys worry about stuff like that too. Everybody always assumes is no bug deal for guys.

    8. Morgan had a throw-away line in that scene that he says very quickly. It's something like "you need to hit the pec deck". I remember having to google what he meant by "pec deck". I always wonder if Josh adlibbed that line.

      Delete
  4. Lol, it seemed kind of obvious he wasn't into taking off his shirt. Heck, he even usually wore long pajama pants rather than boxers. Wonder if he will try to work out for Thor 2, he can get buff if he tried. Of course his character in Thor wouldn't be taking his shirt off.

Anyway, back to the news. I adore Yvonne, never have watched Dexter as just the idea of a serial killer being the lead character of a show never felt right - I will watch this season though, I don't even care about going back to watch previous seasons. Just don't want to do that. Hope the writing that everybody says has slipped big time has a rebound.

    1. Whenever I just want to catch up on plots on a show I will Google something like "Dexter episode list wiki" and that tends to give you a Wikipedia site that has every episode listed along with a summary of events.

    2. I hated when he wore gross grandpa pajamas in contrast to Yvonne.. like come on dude..

  5. Does anyone know how many episodes she will be doing? What if its only 2 or 3.
Hopefully she will at least get to do a proper explicit sex scene unlike Chuck which was so tame kids could watch it.

    1. Well, two things. DEXTER seems to only run 12 episodes per season. And they started filming only a few weeks ago. So, I figure she's going to be in more than a couple of episodes.

Lithgow did their panel the season he did the show.

    1. She'll be there anyway, won't she? Aren't the I, FRANKENSTEIN peeps making a showing?

      Delete
    2. I am also guessing that Zac will be there too for his Nerd HQ and I am assuming a Thor 2 panel if there is one. I am guessing too that Zac, Yvonne and any other former Chuck star at Comic Con will be at Zac's after party...but that is a guess not fact.

      Delete
    3. Good point. I forgot about "I, Frankenstein". It's probably because I have avoided Hall H and the movie presentations in favor of the TV ones. I hate waiting in line for Hall H.

Last year, a lot of movie companies skipped out on Comic-con. The movie line-up was thinner than previous years. If they do "I, Frankenstein" she will have two panels to do and I'll have to end my Hall H avoidance.

      Delete
    4. Zac will definitely be there since he's covering SDCC for SpikeTV or some shit (I don't pay attention to 99% of press releases mind you, I'm too cool for that). Plus, the THOR 2 thing could land him there as well.

      Delete
    5. Thor 2 doesn't come out until next Fall. They don't usually do panels before they have footage. They would do a Thor 2 panel next year, not this year.

As I understand it, Zac will be there for his Nerd HQ and Spike. He will probably try to get as many Chuck castmembers for a charity panel there. If Yvonne is at the con for other reasons, it makes that task easier.

      Delete
    6. But... but... but... Zac and Yvonne hate each other! Haven't you heard the rumor?!

      Delete
    7. Come on, everyone knows they hate each other, Savant! GET WITH IT. Don't you listen to crazy IRL shippers?

      Delete
    8. Lol, I totally forgot about the whole Zac and Yvonne hate each other, lol. Well if that is true (lol, fucking crazy internet cunts) then maybe Kristen Kreuk will be there for Beauty and the Beast and he can get her or Lauren Cohen, I heard they are friends...I did not hear that but the internet is fucking stupid so why not? lol.

      Delete
    9. I have no idea how the whole "Zac and Yvonne hate each other rumor" started. I knew a bunch of people who worked on that show and never heard even a peep about any crack in their friendship.

      Delete
    10. Some people's heads would explode if Zac had Kristin Kreuk and Brandon Routh do his Chuck panel.

      Thus...I looooooove the idea.

      Shawn is a genius.

      Delete
    11. I would fall in deeper love with Zac if he had Kreuk and Routh there.

      Delete
    12. It's something he would do. Yvonne will probably be too busy to go to any of NERD HQ or Zac's panel. Ah well.

    13. Will you consider telling us about that hilarious blooper you couldn't talk about? I think it was Zac and Yvonne Season Four.

    14. Alright... enough time has passed... it involved Zac and Yvonne... and a bed... and Zac turning to her and asking her something... to which she responded very enthusiastically in the positive... and then they flung themselves into the nearest bouncy flat surface. :)

    16. I am sitting here with my mouth wide open and my shipper heart is racing. So this was about SEX???

      Delete
    17. Well that just sounds funny, nothing to hide. Kind of like the tongue thing in Season 2. It was interesting to see what they cut out this from this season's DVD reel vs. the one that the editor released. It seemed like they were sensitive on cutting humor that maybe people even had a remote possibility of being offended by. Like "Gaygents", etc.

      Delete
    18. It is funny... but as you see above, shippers run with that shit. And that's why I didn't talk about it for 2 years. :)

      Delete
    19. Yeah dude give them an inch they take a mile. lol. Shippers would've been hitting the roof if you told this when the show was still going.

      Delete
    20. I read somewhere that Zac said he and Yvonne were like brother and sister. Unfortunately crazy shippers never understood that there was zero romantic spark or chemistry between them offscreen.

      Delete
    21. "I have no idea how the whole "Zac and Yvonne hate each other rumor" started."

I kind of do. There's a subset of fandom who can't separate the actors from the characters.

In their frame of mind, if Zac and Yvonne aren't totally in love offscreen the way Chuck and Sarah were onscreen if must be because they secretly hate each other.

There's no middle ground for these nuts. So, they examine every photo and conversation of the two for confirmation that the two hate each other. They are digital people. You are either in love or you hate each other. "1's and 0's". No middle ground between those possibilities.

      Delete
    22. Actually I believe it started when didn't follow each other on twitter or when they were asked why they didn't follow each other on twitter or something like that.

      Delete
    23. Exactly. Which is why there are very few bloopers/BTS with them because the shippers cannot handle them standing near each other out of character. Magnus - lol @ at them flinging themselves... strange kids...

      Delete
    24. So I guess the blooper was during Season Three then because you said two years... wtf when were they near a bed?

      Delete
    25. Uh, anytime the were having a conversation in the bedroom?

This type of pointless speculation is par for the course. See practically any fandom. See any fandom where two costars might smile at each other, etc. I wouldn't be surprised to hear crap about the Dexter guy and her now, what with the stuff that was rumored on Dexter last year. It's called gossip and is inevitable and silly.

On people talking about Emmy's and stuff, uh, I love and adore Yvonne, but let's actually wait and see her performance? The character/writing/acting might suck, I sincerely hope not, but everybody isn't always a perfect fit or a special fit.

I'm just glad to get to see her on TV in the fall - thought I would have to wait for her small role in The Guilt Trip at Christmas.

    26. They were too good at their job, lol, that was all it was.

      Delete
    27. Honestly you can see it in there eyes they are in love and they have been reported several times "hanging out" and being together now I ask you if they weren't into each other then why on earth would they spend so much time together on and off set?

      Delete
    28. Zac and Yvonne?

No. Sorry. There is no romance there. You can try to extract whatever you want from things you perceive based on your need for your fantasy to be real, but I know for a fact. They'd both laugh at the notion that people would believe otherwise.

      Delete
    29. Excuse me, not that I don't understand and somewhat justify your opinion, but I just wonder: Do you know Zac and Yvonne personally?

  9. I doubt that he would be included on panel for Thor 2 as his role is most likely not so big. However, they could include him just because he is so popular with crowd or because maybe Hemsworth or another start can't make it.

I was wondering about I Frankenstein panel. I saw some TV panels have been announced already but no movies yet.

    1. His role will be big enough to be on the panel. Plus, it's Zac! He is asked to be on things he isn't even a part of!

      Like Talking Dead!

      Delete
    2. Is his role small? I do not know because I have not read any of the Marvel comics to be honest. But from his interviews in 2010 he seemed really bumed not to do it due to his Chuck commitments and so I can only assume that the role was big enough for him. The one thing that is really cool is that he was going to get the role in the first place so he is just fulfilling his destiny :)

    3. Talking Dead!

That reminds me, how sad was it that the Chuck Cast of Zac, Yvonne, Adam and Josh were not able to do the Nerdist bowling against Chris Hardwick and his fellow bowlers? shieeeet Partner that would have been awesome.

    6. Why would Chris care if it was current of former?

    7. I didn't think the role of Fandral was very big in the first Thor film. After all, the guy who played him went on to a TV series (Once Upon a Time).

But, I've heard that more was filmed than made the final cut.

I'm not expecting much screentime solely on the first film. But, who knows except people who've read the script.

Hahahah, best thing I read all day.

I'm happy for Yvonne. Dexter is not the show it used to be, but it's a cable show, it's violent, something new. Plus they have to get her in a sex scene...preferably with Dexter.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I just remembered. You and Vlad once talked about in a podcast that it would be the craziest thing if Yvonne were to be cast in a Showtime of HBO show, and that she would have to get all naked and stuff. And then she would win an Emmy for it. Magnus your psychic! Lol. One thing has already come to pass so lets see if the Emmy prediction comes true to. :)

    1. I said this above, but I only watched three episodes of Season 6--premiere, a middle one, and the finale. I think it's quite sufficient to understanding the premise.

Besides, Dexter goes pretty heavy on exposition. They have all that Dexter voiceover and people talk out their feelings all the time.

      Delete
    2. Thanks for the suggestion. I might give it a try but Season 6 was a little off for me. Like MediaSavant, I've only seen a handful: the first two episodes, "Nebraska" and the finale.

  17. I just thought of this it's going to be kind of a reunion for Yvonne and C.S. Lee aka Sarah Walker and Harry Tang since they where both in Chuck. I wonder if they will make any Chuck reference when they are in a scene together?

  20. This will be a good showcase for Yvonne . After Chuck was finished I thought it would be cool if Yvonne went to a show like Dexter with its dark theme or hoped she would do a guest spot on Community , either as an acquaintance of Britta or an exchange student lol .

Hey , speaking of Community :) .... What do you think of the mid October premier date ? Won't that make it next to impossible to get that back 9 since they probably be almost done if not finished production by then ? There won't be any ratings data for NBC to gauge how it's doing either . I guess we'll just have to hope that the ratings are somewhat good to be considered for a 5th season . Any thoughts ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I doubt they will start taking down the COMMUNITY sets until after the new year so NBC will have enough data to decide what they want to do by then. But putting them into October is probably not going to help their ratings any. And I don't think there is any chance in hell that they will get a 5th season. Back nine maybe (or back six or three whatever)... but not a 5th season.

      Delete
    2. Not even on TBS or Netflix ? Worked for Cougartown on TBS and Netflix was talking about saving Terra Nova and possibly bringing back Jericho at one point :) lol

      Delete
    3. Talking and doing are very different things.

TERRA NOVA didn't happen (just like I said it wouldn't) and JERICHO of course didn't happen (just like I... anyway).

Could COMMUNITY get a Netflix pickup? HELL NO. Why? As I've said many times by now, Hulu owns those rights... for now.

COUGARTOWN moving to cable is something you'd have to ask TBS executives about. I'm sure there was a lot that went into that deal. Fans seem to think it's as simple as a studio wants the show to go on and gives it away cheap to a cable network. There are hundreds of things that go into those negotiations... which is why they almost always die.

      Delete
    4. As I recall, there was still a longshot chance of Chuck getting a back 9 last year despite a late October start. Then, the ratings sucked and killed that idea.

On the other hand, the late start seemed to help Grimm, which debuted the same night and was one of the ratings surprises of last season.

Starting at a different time than the rest of the "new season" gave it more promotion than if it was competing for promo slots with the other new NBC shows.

Chuck actually got more promotion last year than the year before for the same reason.

      Delete
    5. Addendum: All that being said, its more likely that Community will be more like Chuck in this situation than Grimm. But, we'll have to see.

      Delete
    6. I guess this is as good a place to ask this ,

Do you think Community would do well in syndication ?

What would the difference be financially for Sony to stay at 84 eps as to going for 100 ? Is the syndication money greater ? Or is that just fan misconception ?

      Thanks

      Delete
    7. I don't know how well it will do in syndication but Hulu and Comedy Central sure have a lot of confidence in it.

      Delete
    8. As for syndication money I could answer that but MediaSavant probably has a far more accurate answer. :)

      Delete
    9. Okay thanks :) hopefully MediaSavant sees this post . I've always been really curious about that .

If Hulu and Comedy Central believe it will do well on their respected platforms in syndication , is that good money for the show/Sony ? Or would it be better to get sold to a bigger tv network or something like that . Or ( saying that word way to much :( ) is Comedy Central the main/only provider for it ?

      :)

      Delete
    10. Network money is definitely better. Though, there have been some crazy cable syndication contracts. The fact that COMMUNITY already has two off network deals is a positive sign to Sony and will likely motivate them to give the show to NBC for very cheap (or free) to get that back nine next season.

      Delete
    11. If NBC picks up the back 9 I'd be so happy . I just want one ratings challenged underdog show I watch to make it to 100 episodes . So close last year with Chuck :(

      What do you think the chances the show gets to 100 ? 0 - %25 , 25 - %50 , 50 - %75 , 75 - % 90 ?

If Fringe being a serialized drama can get to 100 ( yay ) , I'll hold out a little hope that COMMUNITY can do it :)

      Delete
    12. How do you know you would be happy? You haven't seen the potential piece of shit that is COMMUNITY without Dan Harmon.

I think it has a 50/50 chance right now of getting that pickup. Talk to me in October when I can tell you very accurately what is going to happen (since I still have ninjas inside NBC). :)

      Delete
    13. Oh , your probably right about the quality without Harmon . But I'm willing to bet even without the MAD GENIOUS the show will still be better than %80 of the shows on tv . I'm hoping anyway :) The cast is just to good .

I have always appreciated your approach to answering questions honestly like you just did with mine . I know your not going to sugarcoat anything . Just the fact that you think it could possibly be 50/50 gives me a little joy :) I hope you won't mind if come October I pester you consistently about COMMUNITY'S chances lol :)

  21. BTW--
I've been doing research into what films are going to Comic-con and I haven't seem any reference to "I, Frankenstein" going there. Most of the articles talk about more of the companies sitting it out. As a result, some TV shows (e.g. Big Bang Theory) are going to be put into the cavernous Hall H, where films ruled a few years ago.

It hasn't been confirmed that Dexter is going either, but the Showtime plans have been under wraps. Showtime has been a big advertiser at SDCC in the past few years.

    1. Didn't you think that they wouldn't ? I did . But the backlash would probably be worse by not showing up at all than to answer a few questions re: Harmon .

Let's just hope this isn't the last time :)

Shouldn't this news deserve its own post ? :D

Probably... but there are 200 sites covering it already. And I tend to post things based on what I want to talk about with people... and SDCC just isn't my bag. I don't get super excited about it.

Now, if they were going to Nerd HQ...

  26. It's just been confirmed that Yvonne will be on the Dexter panel at Comic-con.

Chuck fans should hog the Q&A line and ask her nothing but Chuck finale questions.

    (Just kidding...I think)

    1. Hope she stops by at Zac's Nerd HQ. There should be a Chuck panel right?

    2. I believe I saw photos of her at his private party upstairs last year.

I hope there's a Chuck panel, but it probably depends on how many of the actors he can get to San Diego.

I know a "Zac and Yvonne" only panel would be a huge draw, but I don't know if he'd do it if it was just the two of them.

    3. I don't see why Zac wouldn't do a Zac and Yvonne only panel if that's all that was available. But I doubt that will be all that is available. We have no idea what schedules are like that weekend. For all we know, people are shooting that week. Hell, Yvonne might be shooting right after her panel (which happened to her and Adam during the Tweet-Up a couple of years ago).

    4. Exactly, all on the schedules. Since Dexter is on Thursday, I wouldn't doubt she would have to work at least on Friday, and then I wouldn't think she would return on Sat/Sun. So basically, might go to Nerd HQ on Thursday if can squeeze in or if she has Friday off, then sure. For Dexter she will have to do the panel, do press, etc. Takes a while.

I am just glad she will be down there at all. Nerd HQ or not

    5. I doubt Zac would ever do a panel with just him and Yvonne.

    6. Why wouldn't he? If she was the only one available.

  27. Gomez is most probably going to be there, as Dave Coleman from NerdMachine kind of tweeted, so its a moot point anyway. Mark Christopher Lawrence lives in San Diego I think, so he might show unless he has a stand up somewhere.

The movies announced so far look really meager. I know some more will come. Lone Ranger might be interesting just to hear their spin on the shoot that seems to be running out of control.

I love Chuck, but I hope they focus the questions on Dexter to Yvonne, I always enjoy when the panel is about the topic. Like on Chuck panels when they would ask about Firefly, Jayne v Casey crap, I just wanted to roll my eyes.

    2. hehe i was done with Dexter after Julie Benz left the show
Now that another blonde bombshell joined the cast i might give the show another shot

if the producers would consider a Benz/Strahovski/Hall 3way Dexter could be the #1 show in America

    3. SPOILER:

I don't know anything that is going to happen this season but... Yvonne's character will die... or become Dexter's lover and then die... or leave him.

  28. I hope yvonne character falls in love with dexter but I don't want her to die or leave him. I hope she stays until at least until some time next season or the last season which I hear is coming up soon because I am reading that Dexter is ending at season 8.

    1. Based on how they write this show, it is very unlikely that she will make it through the season alive. New good guys and bad guys tend to get killed off each season.

  29. Since there will more than likely never be another single episode of chuck, then we are all left thinking to ourselves, whats next? This isn't inception, we don't end it wondering whether or not things worked out. We need to see an ending that makes us smile, and chuck fails to do so. That is why there is only one solution to curing the chuck franchise- CHUCK, the movie at Comic Con.

    1. The only real solution is just re-doing season 5 from episode 5.08 on.

  31. this show has had a hard time following up Season 4, and the final image it gave us, in general. And while I didn't have a huge problem with Season 5 and the character of Lumen like some fans did, I didn't like the way she conveniently left the show, leaving Dexter miraculously healed; guilt over Rita's death assuaged. Likewise, last year's 12-episode journey of "I'm afraid I'll raise my son to be a monster/I guess it's enough to just love my son" also felt like it was leaving us with no permanent or meaningful change to the series. But that all changed at the very last scene of the Season 6 finale when Deb caught Dexter in the act of stabbing Travis, freeing up the writers' room to dig in like never before.Season 7 was filled with surprises galore, and I can only hope that the next year's final run gives us as much macabre glory.
