21-Days of CHUCK! Day 18: Eleanor Woodcomb is a Hot Mama!

Has there ever been a more smokin' MILF than Chuck's big sister Ellie?

Dear unholy feelings in my P.A.N.T.S., the universe created this goddess for us to gaze at longingly. Endlessly. Creepily. 500-yards or morely... uhhh, sorry. I just love brunettes which is why I keep ending up with blonds.

Anyway, this hazel-eyed, dark-haired, fiery angel of heavenly supernovas is also a brilliant medical doctor; a researcher; a sexy sex lover; a badass mother (watch yo' mouf!); and the person who took on the responsibility of raising and watching out for Chuck when both her parents took off into the spy world.

She is head strong, dangerous when swinging something at your head (just ask Casey and Shaw), and looks amazing in just about anything, even those blue scrubs that doctors wear.

For several seasons, Ellie was used as the goal-antagonist for Chuck. Or be to be specific, the character that was handed the task of moving Chuck's personal torment at having to seem like a failure to his sister while doing great things. Later, after she learned of Chuck's spy life, she was used as another story device, of Chuck having to hide his spying again.

These things definitely made her the scapegoat for some fan complaints about her nagging or unfairness toward Chuck, but I rarely bought into them. Why? Because she was the mother character for Chuck, for some of the most important periods of his life, and so her wants and expectations for him would be, at times, unreasonable. Because no one could ever be more important to her than Chuck. And as often happens with parental figures, their expectations are greatly exaggerated versions of what we will ever achieve. Though, in Chuck's case, her initial expectations of his ability to achieve greatness, turned into her fears of losing him. That is very believable.

Eventually, Ellie relaxed her expectations and fears and saw Chuck as someone very capable, someone she trusted with her life, and the life of her husband and child. She also assisted Team B/Carmichael Industries in figuring out issues with the Intersect. She also, as previously and parenthetically mentioned, took out Daniel Shaw right before he was going to murder her brother.

She is a super hero! And Sarah Lancaster (the actor) should play Wonder Woman!

What say you?

  1. Green eyes? Having actually seen Sarah Lancaster in RL, I call 'em hazel brown.

Yes, she'd be great as Wonder Woman!

  2. Yes she should play Wonder Woman...but only if Yes she should play Wonder Woman...but only if Joss Whedon writes the script! Some of CHUCK's most touching moments were those brother/sister talks that Chuck and Ellie shared. I loved Ellie ever since her poisoned tirade in Chuck vs. the Truth (Words taste like peaches), but Sarah Lancaster hit a whole new level of depth with her character with one word/question 'Pancakes?' When Papa B returned and you could see in her delivery of that one word all of the anger, love, and fear that Ellie carried surrounding her abandonment. There was fire and steel in her eyes but she also managed to convey this glimpse of a young girl who just desperately wanted to mess up the Knock Knock joke and take a nap in the back seat of her dad's Mustang. Sarah was often tasked with the thankless job of nag, as you said, but it also made Ellie’s Mama Bear Instincts so badass once she did find out the truth in Chuck vs. The Ring. Also…she cooks a mean Thanksgiving dinner and is the worst fake spy ever…OK Devon is worse, but he’s Awesome so it all evens out.

  3. Maybe it's because of Ellie's role in the first few seasons, but I really get pumped when Ellie is working with the team now. It's kinda like a "the family that spies together stays together" vibe.

Fedak said something in a season 5 interview that he saw Ellie as the smarter of the two siblings. I also like seeing glimpses of that, too. I hope she has a key role in the final two.

  4. I admit I was a bit annoyed at her in "Ring pt 2" when she demanded Chuck to quit the spy life... but overall I just love the character. And she did realize during S4 that it was an unfair thing to ask. I love the scene in "Agent X" where Chuck finally takes her down to the Castle to meet the gang.

    1. It was unfair, but she was reeling from her father's death. I thought her acceptance later was more the real Ellie response.

  5. Good write up, I agree with everything you said. I've always like Ellie but feel she was under used.

I also think she'd make a great Wonder Woman, but I think she's a bit old now, sadly.

Wendy, yeah, "pancakes" was a great scene for Ellie and the show. Dream Job is a fantastic episode for me. I feel it's underrated. It's in my top 5 or 7 episodes. I enjoy it much more than Colonel. I just get very emotional with it. The mythology at its best. Another great episode for the characater was the season 3 finale, oh and Santa Suit just for that scene in the BuyMore when she saves her little brother.

  6. Now Ellie stepped up to bat to save Sarah. Who has Clara while all this intersect business is being dissected. Devon's parents ? And where did Mrs. B go after Chuck's and Sarah's wedding ? Will we find out if she was working for Quinn this whole time like Decker said or was it just a ploy to break Daniel Shaw out of prison ? Speaking of Daniel Shaw, he is still alive. If there ever might be a movie, he could be Chuck's nemesis like Superman's Luther? Any thoughts ?

  7. Eh, refresh my memory... did Decker say something about MamaB?

  8. Decker said: You're just a pawn, you always were. You think it was all a coincidence? The Intersect, Fulcrum, the ring, Shaw, Agent X. That was all just part of the plan Bartowski...pieces on the puzzle board." Mama B holding a gun on Sarah in Castle. Fedak said "[The finale is] an episode haunted by previous seasons, so you're going to find a lot of echos... The first half of the night is very much a contained thriller. then [in the final episode] every act will have echos of past seasons and you'll see how we fold that into the whole story and the narrative will all make sense."

  9. Ellie was also very friendly towards Casey and Sarah in the earlier seasons. She like Casey and was very excited that Sarah was in Chuck's life, so without completely knowing at the time...she had good judgement of people. Her telling Chuck to fight for Sarah was an awesome Ellie scene and not nagging brain dead fans who say it is. I also agree that she had a right to ask Chuck to quit since her father just died and she raised Chuck so yeah. I can see why fans were a little ticked off considering what came before in the season and they just wanted stability but no...she had a point.

    I will miss Ellie.

  10. Sorry, Magnus. I think Lancaster might be a natural blonde. Before CHUCK, I had only ever seen in her Saved by the Bell, Everwood, and Scrubs, and each time a blonde. She does look absolutely gorgeous both ways though. She's far from the most discussed character, but she'll be one of the actors I miss seeing most!

    1. So what? She's an actor. And I'm talking about Ellie anyway, who clearly has brown hair.

  11. My favorite scenes with Ellie were the one's with Casey.

When Casey would say something to Ellie and she didn't know he was spy so she thought he was weird.

When Casey was talking about having malaria and having home remedies to make yourself better.

Just Sarah Lancaster's facial expressions and reactions to that.

When Ellie was talking to the CIA/Ring operative and Casey thought she was cheating on Devon.

When Devon made up the story about Casey getting drunk and exposing himself it was Ellie's reaction to him that made me laugh.

First her reaction to Devon but then how she acted toward Casey after that.
